Regional Attorney Development Director

For the New York Office of an International Law Firm
This is a filled position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead attorney development and strategic initiatives in New York headquarters, and provide leadership to teams across Eastern region offices in DC, Atlanta and Boston, to attract and retain the best legal talent;
  • Manage attorney performance management and career development in New York, including creating and delivering performance metrics, disseminating performance feedback for attorneys from clients;
  • Hire, coach and develop a strong team in the attorney development function;
  • Work in parallel with regional leader in the West and International markets to continually improve operations and share best practices to promote the Firm culture and citizenship across our attorney community;
  • Keep fully updated on current state of the market, law firm and in-house hiring trends;
  • Partner with other offices and departments, including Practice Management, Marketing, Finance, and Information Technology to ensure seamless coordination within the Firm.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA or JD preferred; 8+ years of professional experience within a law firm or corporate in-house environment, a HR department, or professional service company;
  • Poise and maturity to interact with senior level, highly experienced lawyers and/or clients, including the confidence and sensitivity to deliver tough or constructive feedback;
  • Highly persuasive communication skills (both verbal and written); able to inspire confidence and build relationships;
  • Demonstrable ability to coach, mentor, teach and develop others; with high level critical thinking and creative problem solving skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills, together with the ability to operate in an often high-pressured and fast-paced environment;
  • Highly proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel and PowerPoint).
