Professional Development Manager - Transactional Assignments

For the New York Office of an International Law Firm
This is a filled position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic advice regarding associate staffing, planning, and resource management to Banking & Finance, Capital Markets, and Corporate practice groups; work closely with attorneys to optimize the allocation of work on client matters;
  • Identify appropriate workloads while incorporating junior associate preferences and development goals where possible;
  • Understand and assess the availability of resources; provide utilization and resource availability reports;
  • Facilitate mobility and flexibility within and across practice areas and globally;
  • Ensure secondments, leaves of absence, vacation, training time and non-billable tasks are accounted for when allocating work;
  • Ensure that any feedback on associate performance obtained during the work allocation process is shared with the HR Department.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's Degree ; 4+ years of experience in resource management/ work allocation, professional services firm preferred; must be independently legally authorized to work in the US;
  • Proven people management skills with the ability to deliver difficult messages to senior management; ability to build and maintain strong internal working relationships;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to persuade, negotiate, and remain tenacious; strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and analytical skills;
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution experience; ability to make effective decisions using sound judgment;
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize competing demands to meet deadlines;
  • Proficient in MS Office; experience with resource planning tools a plus.
