Communications Director

For the New York Office of a Prestigious, Global Law Firm
This is a filled position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and manage the positioning and messaging of the Firm internally and externally by collaborating closely with members of the BD Department and other Firm leadership;
  • Raise the visibility and reputation of the Firm globally, particularly in the markets where the Firm has offices; serve as a media advisor to Firm leaders and Partners; use media contacts to further the Firm's visibility;
  • Train and prepare lawyers to serve as media spokespersons for the Firm, its practices and offices; support lawyers through editing bylined articles and placing them in key legal, trade and business publications;
  • Develop online and social media strategies; produce multimedia programs, including videos focused on thought leadership;
  • Oversee all external submissions for directory listings and work with practice teams and Firm leadership to develop content and prioritize submission strategy to align with Firm goals; conduct market analysis and focus on key awards and submissions;
  • Hire, develop and manage communications personnel, including writers; be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the team and contribute to all areas of communications, including collaborating with marketing team to develop communications content.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree required, MA or JD preferred; 10+ years of experience in a successful communications role in a professional services environment; Law Firm or legal profession background required;
  • Significant experience in strategic communications planning and implementation and in public relations/media;
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills, including writing, editing, oral and presentation skills;
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail; experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and ability to work on time-sensitive, confidential matters; ability to work in an environment with shifting priorities;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; proactive and outgoing personality, coupled with a strong client service attitude; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels;
  • Resourceful, driven attitude with a genuine desire and energy to ensure team success.
