Director of Professional Development

For the NYC, DC, or Chicago office of a Global Law Firm
This is a filled position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead Professional Development team, including 5 managers, in assessing lawyer training and development needs in order to develop and implementing initiatives that are responsive to lawyer needs;
  • Deliver soft skill training sessions; oversee all CLE programs;
  • Work with Practice Group leadership on lawyer development; provide career development coaching sessions on an as-needed basis;
  • Work with professional development managers to execute the performance management process (including evaluations, promotion, and related training);
  • Partner with Diversity Lead to implement professional development initiatives to support the Firm's diversity strategy;
  • Develop and maintain professional development budget; partner with talent management to develop and oversee execution of compensation policies and processes.

Qualifications include:

  • 7+ years of professional development experience in large and dynamic organizations, preferably in a legal services;
  • Bachelor's degree is required; JD or MBA preferred;
  • Strong ability to lead, motivate and mentor, inclusive of diligently addressing performance concerns;
  • Well-developed and sophisticated organization, communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to inspire confidence of professionals at all levels within an organization;
  • High level of discretion, diplomacy and a commitment to maintaining the highest level of professionalism;
  • Comfortable working across multiple time zones in a matrix organization.
