PR & Communications Manager

For the New York Office of a Prestigious Global Law Firm

Responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with the BD team, other departments, and lawyers to develop and implement PR strategies for the Firm, its practice groups and individual lawyers;
  • Draft and edit a wide-range of content including press releases, firm newsletters, practice group descriptions, lawyer interviews etc. for the Firm's website and other communications outlets;
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key business, legal and trade journalists; arrange media interviews for lawyers with journalists; conduct media training for lawyers on messaging and interview preparation;
  • Manage the Firm's day-to-day media relations activities including fielding requests for comment from journalists, researching publications/journalists, identifying topics for pitching, monitoring stories of interest etc.;
  • Develop targeted media lists for distribution of external content; research opportunities for and facilitate placement of bylined articles in relevant business and trade publications;
  • Draft key industry and lawyer survey and award submissions.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree; JD or advanced degree is a plus; 4-7 years of experience in PR or journalism with a focus on law, business, finance or politics; contacts at business and legal trade organizations and media outlets a plus;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships and work effectively with lawyers and staff at all levels; highly proactive approach including ability to initiate and execute projects independently and collaboratively;
  • Exceptional written communication skills, including the ability to draft creative and compelling copy that conveys the appropriate tone and voice for the target audience or publication;
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate and present complex ideas clearly and succinctly;
  • Impeccable attention to detail and excellent organizational skills; ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously and to prioritize deadlines; ability to maintain composure in high-pressure situations and a fast-paced environment;
  • Knowledge of specific legal practice areas and how a sophisticated global law firm works is a plus; experience with social media is a plus.
