Looking to the Future with Excitement

Happy New Year! This year, we will celebrate 30 years since I launched Wisnik Career Enterprises.

On a recent flight to Boston to conduct Interviewer Training, I had a déjà vu moment. I clearly remembered being on the Delta Shuttle to Boston in January 1996 to present to the Women’s Law Group at Harvard on networking skills. I was excited and terrified because I had just resigned from my Director of Recruiting & Training role at Cadwalader to launch my own business.

The exciting part was envisioning the business I would build to serve law firm training and placement needs. The terrifying part was that I had just received my last paycheck. From that moment on, unless I secured clients, there would be no more money coming in.

For those of us who flew the shuttle in the “old days,” you may recall that there were tons of free magazines available for travelers to read on the plane. I picked up a copy of Inc. magazine because I was now an entrepreneur.

There was an article I read on that short flight to Boston that I still remember well. It discussed how, as hard as the early years of starting a business are, most founders say they are the best years because of all the opportunities and possibilities that lie ahead.

As I write this, I’m on a flight to Chicago to present to firms, and sitting next to me is my son, Jake, who officially joined Wisnik Career Enterprises on December 1st as our Recruiting Specialist. He’s been meeting our clients, conducting salary surveys, and learning the nuances of the different roles we place.

As I reflect on the past 30 years, I feel just as excited about the future of Wisnik Career Enterprises today as I did on that flight to Boston 30 years ago, just a lot less terrified!

Thank you for all your support and for welcoming Jake into our industry.
