Business Development Manager, Global Transactions, M&A (Japan)

For the Tokyo Office of an International Law Firm

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide high quality, proactive business development support to assist the Tokyo office in successfully growing its business, on a cross-practice and cross-sector basis;
  • Respond to the specific challenges and opportunities in the Japan and M&A markets and develop a focused marketing and BD strategy that strengthens relationships with existing clients, targets new work and builds the global reputation of the firm;
  • Create and manage compelling credentials, proposals and pitches to respond to fast turn-around bids, strategic panels or other opportunities to win work for the global practice group or sector;
  • Produce content, campaigns, events and relevant directory and award submissions to increase engagement with key clients and enhance the personal brands of leading practitioners and the firm’s global reputation;
  • Leverage technology to analyze trends, anticipate and identify opportunities to develop existing clients and services, track key relationships, and measure the success of initiatives;
  • Build trusted relationships with key senior internal stakeholders and MBD colleagues to achieve a ‘one team’ global mindset; manage the career development of more junior colleagues within the BD team.

Qualifications include:

  • Japanese fluency required;
  • 5+ years of related marketing/business development experience in a large global law firm;
  • Strong emotional intelligence, independent thinking and execution, and mature professional judgement;
  • A strong understanding of the Japan market;
  • Excellent teamworking and collaboration skills, with the ability to build strong relationships internally and externally.
  • Strong multi-tasking and project management skills and demonstrated capabilities to manage multiple deadlines and changing project criteria, and resilience under pressure.
Salary: 9,000,000-18,000,000 Japanese Yen. Relocation expenses will be covered.
