Professional Development Manager

For the San Francisco Office of a Global Law Firm

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide individualized and group coaching to associates on professional development, goal setting, and career challenges, including structured sessions for new associates;
  • Lead new and lateral associate integration, including orientations, buddy and mentor pairings, and ongoing check-ins to ensure smooth onboarding;
  • Oversee formal mentoring programs, coordinating annual launches, mentor group assignments, and periodic mentoring events in collaboration with local leaders;
  • Partner with attorneys and internal colleagues to identify training needs and design targeted professional development programs, including office-specific and firm-wide initiatives;
  • Act as the primary Professional Development resource for assigned offices, supporting attorney committees, office leadership, and local programming needs;
  • Conduct exit interviews and analyze associate feedback to identify trends, supporting firm-wide engagement and retention initiatives.

Qualifications include:

  • 5+ years of experience as an associate in a large or mid-size law firm; JD required; global law experience strongly preferred;
  • Deep understanding of associate workflows and the challenges of practicing in a large firm environment, with proven involvement in mentoring, training, and associate development;
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach attorneys and build strong relationships across all levels of the firm;
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to design programs, manage events, and drive progress on long-term initiatives;
  • High degree of discretion and integrity in handling sensitive and confidential matters;
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), with strong writing, editing, and presentation skills.
Salary: $170k-$180k
