Business Development Manager
For the New York Office of a New York Based Boutique Law FirmResponsibilities include:
- Leading the development of RFPs and RFIs, including guiding attorneys on overall strategy, drafting content for proposals, and assisting with follow-up, as well as producing tailored materials for specific opportunities.
- Overseeing directory submissions and rankings (Chambers USA, Legal 500, Best Lawyers, etc.), working closely with relevant partners and practice group heads and maintaining the deadline calendar.
- Supporting practice group and industry initiatives, including organizing and facilitating group meetings, providing strategic insight, tracking action item, and following through with attorneys on individual tasks.
- Conducting competitive intelligence analysis for business development targets of current and prospective clients and monitoring the competitive landscape and industry developments in the Firm's core sectors.
- Leading the adoption of AI tools to streamline BD workflows, improving the speed and quality of collateral production, reducing time spent on repetitive tasks.
- Collaborating with attorneys and the Communications team to ensure client and prospect lists are targeted, current, and strategically segmented using engagement data and outreach activity to act on business development opportunities.
Qualifications include:
- 7+ years of related experience in a law firm or professional services environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading pitch and proposal processes in a professional services environment.
- Superb written communications skills; ability to write and edit proposal content quickly and at a high level.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines and handle competing priorities effectively.
- Ability to work with all levels of personnel as well as Firm leadership, including senior partners, with a client-focused mindset and strong interpersonal and oral communications skills.
- Hands-on experience using AI tools (such as Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or legal-specific platforms) to improve writing, research, and workflow efficiency with the ability to evaluate new tools and build adoption among team members.
